Christ is risen — and that changes everything. This Easter resurrection Sunday message walks through the first Easter morning across all four Gospel accounts and lands on a powerful identity truth: every believer baptized into Christ has been raised with Him. Part 13 of the Your REAL ID series reveals what it means to be alive in Him.

The Context

This Easter resurrection Sunday teaching pieces together the first Easter morning from all four Gospel accounts — the women bringing spices to anoint the body, the rolled-away stone, the angels' piercing question "Why do you seek the living among the dead?", Peter's run to investigate the empty tomb, the road to Emmaus, and the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on them in the upper room. Out of that resurrection foundation, a new Real ID truth emerges from Romans 6:11 — I am dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

The Core Message

The teaching opens with the beautiful wordplay in Mark 16, where the women came to the tomb "when the sun had risen" — a daily reminder that the Son has risen and intercedes for us as His mercies are new every morning. Pastor Tim Howe walks carefully through the first Easter, drawing out lessons believers can carry every day: when God calls you to a task, He has already gone ahead and made provision (the stone was already rolled away before the women arrived); you will never find the living among the dead, so stop looking for life in the world's counterfeits; investigate the Word like Peter ran to the tomb instead of dismissing reports that sound too good to be true; and listen for Jesus to call your name personally, the way He called Mary. Jesus appeared first to Peter alone — likely a deeply intimate reunion after his denial — before appearing to the rest. The day closed with Jesus breathing on the disciples and saying "Receive the Holy Spirit," mirroring Genesis 2:7 and marking what many believe was the moment the first disciples were truly born again.

From there, the message moves into what it means to be alive in Christ. Romans 5 and 6 declare that just as Christ was raised from the dead, believers walk in newness of life — dead to sin and alive to God. But Scripture also calls believers to examine themselves, especially in how they relate to other members of the body of Christ. A dream the night before about moldy food in the refrigerator led Pastor Tim to discover the refrigerator had drifted out of the safe temperature range — and the spiritual parallel was unmistakable: when believers drift into the lukewarm zone Jesus warned the church at Laodicea about, what was meant to be set apart begins to spoil. The invitation of Easter is twofold — for the one who has never received Christ, to confess Jesus as Lord and be born again today, and for every believer, to examine the heart, repent of anything that has drifted out of being set apart, and walk in the resurrection life Christ already paid for.

The Application

  • Look Up Daily: When you face an obstacle that feels too big, lift your eyes off the problem and look up — God's provision is often already there before you arrive.
  • Seek The Living: Stop looking for life in the dead things of this world — the counterfeits never satisfy because there is only one source of true life.
  • Investigate The Word: Like Peter running to the tomb, take time to search Scripture personally rather than dismissing or accepting claims about God secondhand.
  • Listen For Your Name: Tune your ear to recognize the voice of Jesus, because He often speaks to you personally and intimately, even calling you by name.
  • Consider Yourself Dead: Choose by faith every day to consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God in Christ, refusing to let sin reign in your mortal body.
  • Examine The Fridge: Pause regularly to take honest stock of your life — your thoughts, your relationships, how you treat fellow believers — and surrender anything that has drifted into the lukewarm zone.

Conclusion

Take a few minutes to listen to this powerful Easter resurrection Part 13 message and step into the resurrection life Christ paid for you to walk in every day.
