You are not a slave to a hard taskmaster — you are an heir to the greatest kingdom that has ever existed. Most believers serve God like employees earning a paycheck instead of sons enjoying an inheritance. Part 8 of the Your REAL ID series reveals what changes when you discover you own everything.

The Context

In Galatians 4, Paul writes to believers who were drifting back into religion and dead works, trying to earn through their effort what they had already received by faith. He reminds them that an heir, while still a child, is no different from a slave even though he owns everything — but the moment the Father's appointed time arrives, that same heir steps into the full rights of sonship. The Real ID truth for this message is found in Galatians 4:7 — "So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God."

The Core Message

Pastor Tim Howe contrasts two heart postures that shape how every believer relates to the Father: slave mentality and sonship mentality. A slave mentality labors out of duty, fear, and survival — viewing God as a harsh taskmaster who must be appeased through performance. A sonship mentality flows out of relationship — knowing that the work is done alongside the Father, that the inheritance already belongs to the son, and that every assignment is an invitation to partner with the King. The parable of the prodigal son captures both extremes perfectly: the younger son returns hoping to be hired as a slave, but the Father immediately restores him to full sonship; meanwhile, the older brother has been serving faithfully for years and never realized the Father's startling truth: "All that is mine is yours."

From that foundation, the teaching unpacks the staggering reality of what believers actually inherit through Christ. Eternal life. Salvation. The kingdom of God itself, which Scripture calls greater than every earthly empire that has ever risen or fallen. Ministering angels assigned to serve those who will inherit salvation. The promised Holy Spirit as a guarantee until full possession arrives. Even now, in the here and now, believers tap into this inheritance through prayer — "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" — and through partnering with the Father in His business of healing the sick, sharing the gospel, and expanding the kingdom. The right starting point is never striving harder; it is delighting in the Father until His desires become yours.

The Application

  • Reject Slave Mentality: Stop relating to God as a harsh employer demanding your labor — He is your Father, and you are His heir, working alongside Him out of love rather than fear.
  • Pursue Intimacy First: Make relationship with the Father your starting point so that whatever He calls you to flows out of love, not obligation or religious pressure.
  • Delight In Him: Allow time spent with God to shape the desires of your heart, because Psalm 37:4 promises that as you delight in Him, He plants His desires inside you.
  • Embrace True Servanthood: Recognize that genuine servanthood is not slavery but the heart of Jesus Himself, who came not to be served but to serve and lay down His life.
  • Claim Your Inheritance: Walk in the rights of sonship now — eternal life, ministering angels, kingdom authority, and the indwelling Holy Spirit are already yours through Christ.
  • Pray The Kingdom: Partner with the Father by praying His kingdom come and His will be done, laying hands on the sick, and freely giving what you have freely received.
